The Journey began in 2006 as a small 7 person home group in Lawrenceville, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta) expanding in 15 months to over 470; aware and weary of being misled in their current position in the understanding of our God, being deluded in the erroneous neo-Christianity prosperity, word-of-faith sensationalism and counterfeit gospel, this small group persevered and established The Journey. The Journey grew readily, resulting in a cadre of teaching leaders engrossed in 1 on 1 discipleship embracing numerous home fellowships that are presently active in several Atlanta churches. Fueled by a passion to teach Biblical truth and meet the needs of those who have committed to walking with Jesus, we continue to grow, both in the number of members and in the strength of our unity.
The Journey is in the embryonic stages of being established in the Poplar Bluff, Missouri area and we are seeking a body of believers that have a desire to grow spiritually and have a true heart of Christianity. A body of believers that are not duplicitous and Pharisaical in their judgment of others, Saints that are not apprehensive in reaching out and addressing the concerns of the youth, singles, divorced, heartbroken, addicted and grief stricken in their community. (Matt 9:12)
In his essay called “Polemic Theology: How to Deal with Those Who Differ from Us,” Roger Nicole begins, We are called upon by the Lord to contend earnestly for the faith (Jude 3). That does not necessarily involve being contentious; but it involves avoiding compromise, standing forth for what we believe, standing forth for the truth of God—without welshing at any particular moment.
Because deception; under the guise of Christianity, is so pandemic, true understanding of scripture; in it's original autograph, has become a rare facet in western culture biblical study. Fueled by postmodern thinking, pluralistic theology, relative ideology and secular humanism are held as equally valid worldviews in many of our american Churches. Thus, “truth is fallen in the street” (Isaiah 59:14) and is being trampled underfoot as rubbish.
We are a body of dedicated teachers who seek to serve His Kingdom and one another. We embrace His inerrant Word (The Bible) and our Messiah who is the Living Word . Through faith and by His Spirit we seek to establish His Word as the standard for living within our group. All who share our desire for truth, relationship, accountability, and the love of Christ are welcome.
Moving forward we hope to have significant impact on the lives of His people. Our desire is to develop true disciples of our Lord. We realize that this is a process that takes time and commitment from all involved. Our faith is to be alive, not in a philosophical manner but in real tangible every day action.
We believe that each person was created with a specific calling. We want to help identify that calling, equip you for the journey, recognize the anointing on your life, and encourage your efforts for His Kingdom. Building His Kingdom requires all parts of the Body to function as one. Through many parts being joined together we can accomplish His will in our lives.
We are dedicated to teaching the truths of the Word of God. Jesus Christ said of God’s Word, “Your Word is the Truth … If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 17:17; 8:31-32).
