The Journey is now in Poplar Bluff, Missouri !!!
I am so excited you have expressed an interest in The Journey. My name is Michael and I am convinced our area is ripe for a group of believers passionate for "Teaching Truth in God's Word". Once established, I hope you will consider joining us for our upcoming weekly exegetical teaching, equipping and worship beginning May 10th at 6:30 pm, located at the Comfort Inn in Poplar Bluff. For more information or questions please call us at (573) 718-8804
Every member of The Journey Atlanta was once a first-time guest (more about the Journey on our "About Us page"). Some came initially out of curiosity. Others visited with a deep spiritual need and yearning for in-depth understanding of God's Word. Still others were just seeking answers to the hard questions of scripture and life's purpose.
Our motto at The Journey is "Living Life with Purpose by understanding Truth", It represents our compassion yet uncompromising commitment to the authority of scripture as our basis for truth. It shows our commitment to declare and explain the truth as we graciously and boldly present the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ. It speaks of our resolve to integrate truth and faith into our daily lives as individuals, community and families. It demonstrates our focus on taking our understanding of the truth to others in our neighborhoods, our nation and the nations of the world.
If you would like to discover the life-transforming power of Jesus Christ, then we hope you'll start by attending our "Breakout Launch" focus group. We look forward to personally welcoming you to "The Journey" in Poplar Bluff and hope you'll become part of our group of disciples as we unwrap the truth of God's Word !
II Timothy 2:15 admonishes, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
For a Bible teacher, there is no clearer purpose statement or higher calling than the apostle Paul’s words in Romans: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” That same conviction ought to be the heartbeat of every man who steps into a pulpit, every time he opens the Word of God. It’s an absolute confidence in the supreme power and sufficiency of biblical truth alone to transform lives.
Sadly, confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture has been steadily declining for several decades. Today, too many pastors and church leaders spend their time strategizing ways to adjust or adapt God’s Word to worldly tastes rather than simply communicating it. In an effort to make the gospel more user-friendly, they soften or altogether skirt the hard and offensive biblical truths. They’ve transformed the worship service into a crass sideshow, substituting spiritual junk food for the meat of God’s Word.
But we don’t need to adorn, amend, or adjust the truth of Scripture for it to make an impact in lives, nor can we soften or reshape the gospel message so it appeals to more people. We simply need to preach it clearly and accurately. Multiple generations of believers are in a perpetual state of arrested spiritual development because so many pastors majored on entertainment and technique and minored on biblical content. Let me say this plainly: if a pastor doesn’t believe that God’s Word is enough on its own, he has no business teaching it in the first place.
